Medication Management

Medication management is the prescriber-led part of care that keeps any mental-health medications you take working safely alongside your therapy. At Arise Recovery Centers, it’s an optional part of our PHP, IOP, and SOP programs — focused on the mental-health conditions that often accompany addiction, so they stay stable while you do the work of recovery.

Short answer: A qualified medical provider reviews, prescribes, and monitors medications for co-occurring mental health conditions — like anxiety, depression, or trauma-related symptoms — as one optional part of a therapy-based plan. It’s available across all our outpatient levels, and many clients don’t use it at all.

What is medication management?

Medication management is ongoing care from a qualified medical provider who evaluates whether medication could help with the mental-health symptoms that often go hand-in-hand with substance use, prescribes it when appropriate, and monitors how it’s working over time. It is not a separate or stand-alone program — at Arise it’s one integrated, optional component of a therapy-based outpatient plan, coordinated closely with your counselor and care team.

What it includes

  • Co-occurring mental health support — managing medications for conditions like anxiety, depression, mood, trauma-related symptoms, and sleep that often accompany substance use
  • Ongoing monitoring and adjustment — regular check-ins to track how medications are working and address any side effects
  • Coordination with your therapy — your prescriber and counselor work from the same plan, so care stays consistent
  • Optional and flexible — available across our PHP, IOP, and SOP programs, and only if it’s right for you

Therapy-first, whole-person care

At Arise, recovery is built on counseling, group support, and skill-building. Medication management is there to keep co-occurring mental health conditions stable so they don’t get in the way of that work — it plays a supporting role for some clients and isn’t part of the plan for others. Your care is individualized: a clinical assessment determines whether medication management is included, and it’s always paired with the therapy and structure of our outpatient programs, including IOP and virtual care.

Getting started

It begins with a confidential phone call, an insurance check, and a clinical assessment. If medication management fits your needs, your provider and counselor build it into one coordinated plan.

Frequently asked questions

Is medication management required?

No. It’s an optional part of every program (PHP, IOP, and SOP). Many clients recover through therapy and group support with no medication at all — a clinical assessment determines whether it’s right for you.

What conditions does medication management help with?

Co-occurring mental health conditions that often accompany substance use — such as anxiety, depression, mood, trauma-related symptoms, and sleep — so they stay stable while you focus on recovery.

How does medication management work with therapy?

They’re coordinated. Your prescriber and your counselor work from the same treatment plan, so medication supports the work you do in therapy rather than replacing it.

Who oversees the medications?

A qualified medical provider evaluates, prescribes, and monitors any medications, with regular check-ins and adjustments, in coordination with your care team.
