John’s personal journey has provided a wealth of experience, which he brings to his work at Arise. He graduated from the University of North Texas with honors, and became a bank vice president at the tender age of 25. He left corporate life, however, and entered the music business full time as a nationally touring singer/songwriter at 32. He was widowed at age 37, when his first wife died of complications of alcoholism. After his touring career ended, he ran a live music venue in his hometown of Fort Worth and later became a local Realtor. One large closing gave him enough money to return to graduate school in 2012 to study counseling. This had been an underlying desire over the past 15 years, as his past grief counseling had been a huge benefit and gave him perspective on his wife’s addiction. He thus earned a Masters in Counseling Psychology from Tarleton State University’s SW Metroplex Campus in 2014, and ran a behavioral health program for seniors in South Texas before joining Arise in 2018.
